Ram's Head Tavern
33 West Street
$$$
Ram's Head Tavern is where locals go to see national folk and country acts up close and indulge in some of the best beer in town. Come for Happy Hour and taste Ram's Head's Fordham beers brewed on-site, the Edel Pils, Helles Lager Copperhead Ale, Oyster Stout and Genius Stout, a rival of Guinness. Get there before 6 p.m. if you want a table outside on their heated, beautifully plant-scaped veranda. Once you sit, you'll have to try the ElJefe nachos "The Works" and a Fordham Cup burger with pepper-jack and onions. There are a lot of creative choices to tempt your palate, and the food is consistently well above average for bar-based restaurants. Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. includes a must-try Turbo Ribeye and Eggs and Annapolis Benedict. Bring the kids, there's home-brewed rootbeer and plenty of room for exploring in this Annapolis staple.
Harry Browne's
66 State Circle
$$$$
Manhattan's, a scotch on the rocks, or glass of Chablis, choose your poison up-stairs in Harry Browne's cozy corner brasserie. Harry Browne's doesn't discriminate when the workday is done-all rail drinks are discounted during happy hour, where local politicians and lobbyists come to unwind in one of Annapolis‚ most alluring fine-dining restaurants. Local wine connoisseurs and Scotch drinkers will enjoy the quality of Harry Browne's bar where you can have your pick of a fine selection of wines or other specialties for under $10. Take off your deck shoes, leave your foul weather gear in the room and take your spouse out for cocktails and Nouveau Italian fare. Free Valet Parking is provided and smoking is allowed upstairs in the bar area.
Middleton Tavern Tap Room
On the City Dock, 2 Market Space
$$$$
A classic 18th century Georgian architecture landmark, the Tap Room has been host to such notables as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin as well as the Annapolis Tuesday Club. Come yourself for Happy Hour to get a 1/2 lb. of shrimp for $4.95 or a bucket of mussels for $2. Try Middleton's own draft, Samuel Middleton Pale Ale or the Samuel Adams Octoberfest for $3 or any rail drink for $2. A unique Annapolis treat is their Oyster Shooter, famous among native Annapolitans. It's a shot of oysters and cocktail sauce that you chase with a shot of beer, surprisingly refreshing. The Cuban black bean soup is a must-try, and the Bloody Mary's almost refill themselves. Sit downstairs where the ambiance is fun and lively or outside for good people-watching. Make reservations in the dining room and enjoy a flaky and fresh herb-crusted Grouper or a Black Angus filet and Stuffed Shrimp. The menu is impressively extensive, so leave some time for choosing.

Of course, Guinness is on draft, and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. all the Irish drafts are $3.50 including McSorely's, Killarney's and Caffrey's. If you find yourself out and about late, stop by after 11 p.m. for their late night happy hour where you can choose from five different drafts for $2.
